The Gary Player designed Golf Course at Blue Valley Golf & Country Estate has been designed to make full use of the natural features of the site, while at the same time providing a memorable and challenging golfing experience. Hazards in the form of bunkers and water features provide strategic and aesthetic value. The bunkers have steep grass faces and represent a more traditional style.
The greens generally feature soft undulations, to provide a fair and interesting challenge. The landscaping theme on the golf course is indigenous, with typical Highveld trees species being used. The 9th (445m, par 4) Bunkers to the right and to the left of the fairway, on this slightly right dogleg, focuses the golfers mind on the centre of the fairway. This hole plays downhill from tee to green. The green is elevated and features deep bunkers to the left and to the right and a steep slope behind he green.
And on the 10th (364m, par 4), again the golfer is faced with an exciting tee shot from an elevated tee to a fairway that is much lower than the tee. The green, which is a double green, shared with Hole #1 offers many pin positions because of its enormous size “the largest in Africa".

Pecanwood Golf & Country Estate lies within the picturesque Magaliesberg Mountain range, the oldest reported mountain range in the world and on the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. This location offers members and visitors a peaceful escape from the city being only 40 minutes away from Johannesburg and en-route to Sun City. The Pecanwood Golf Course has won numerous accolades as a Jack Nicklaus ‘signature’ golf course in Africa. The immaculate attention to detail since the beginning of construction, and thanks to modern technology has ranked Pecanwood among the top manicured courses in SA.
The layout bears the Nicklaus hallmarks of wide fairways (planted with kikuyu) , big greens - the first in South Africa to be planted in Crenshaw bent grass. Due to the extremely resilient nature of this grass, able to withstand the combined effects of heat and heavy traffic, they can always be cut low and therefore kept very fast. The course hosts a mass of bunkers, plenty of bail out areas and an absence of blind shots. Pecanwood is appealing and playable to most levels of golfers, challenging their intelligence, rather than their strength. The golf course is aesthetically pleasing and the splendour of the course contributes to the overall golfing experience. Signature hole: The par-three 13th hole measures 187 metres from the championship tee, and plays over a corner of the dam to a peninsula green.
